With Our Compliments

A Patricia Adams Ensemble

About WithOurCompliments | Buy it now | Options

ALBUM DESCRIPTION:  "I met Nick Joyce in November 2003 at a benefit my band played at Boston's World Trade Center.  Nick worked for the event's sound company and it turned out, engineered at his own studio in Weymouth, MA.  For a few years, I had been wanting to record a piano/vocal album and connecting with a new accompanist extended the wait.  I wanted to capture - - document, if you will - - the sheer glee of vocal soaring with piano.   Including drums was a sentimental afterthought.  Multiple variables challenged our studio sessions and I learned what it will take to record a piano/vocal CD !  So be it.  Finally, Nick and I started talking about what might be possible.  I got out of the way and Nick cuddled up with the music.   Nick's experience includes work with Miles Davis as production manager/monitor engineer between 1982 and 1987.  He was studio technician for Decoy, You're Under Arrest and Tutu, Grover Washington Jr. (FOH engineer 1990) and John Scofield (FOH engineer/broadcast engineer/tour manager 1989-1996). These are the most notable. Nick has been Audio Designer and FOH engineer for the Litchfield Jazz Festival  for the past 3 years.  Read more about Nick on his website, www.npstudios.com.
Be Careful, It's My Heart was composed by Irving Berlin in 1942.  It is one of those standards that might be termed not-so-standard, just because it's not often played but the melody is always familiar.  Something Cool was composed by Billy Barnes in 1957.  As he mixed each tune, Nick emailed comments.  About Something Cool, Nick emailed,  "the emotional performance of Something Cool is so strong, I think it needs to be pushed into #2  . . . . i went for a more theatrical feel, reaching into the drama and melancholy of the tune. I envision hearing this as if in a medium sized theatre, a scene from an offbeat, off off Broadway play, without too many in the audience, but the actress is pouring her heart and soul into the scene, as she can so totally relate to it in her own sad, lost loves life.....".  Frim Fram Sauce was composed by Joe Ricardel and Redd Evans in 1946.  Nick said, "it is a good tune, nice and peppy, in that second 1/2 of the set pick-'em-up slot."  And, about Blackberry Winter, composed in 1976 by Alec Wilder, he said  "On to Blackberry Winter, which I purposely saved for last.....cuz I think its so wonderful......." just before he mixed.
Such is the journey so far of what I'm going to call With Our Compliments !
Enjoy,

About Out Of This World | Buy it now | Options

ALBUM DESCRIPTION
Qualified and listed in four categories on the 44th annual Grammy Awards ballot.  Songs include two arrangements of the Harold Arlen title tune which opens and closes the album, Cole Porter favorite, Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye, contemporary improvisation repertoire including Moonlight In Vermont, Tell Me You'll Wait For Me, and Don't Explain. Hear a jazz gospel arrangement of Corner Of The Sky from the Broadway hit, Pippin and a salsa Nearness Of You. The rest of the album includes All My Tomorrows, Can't We Be Friends, Come Rain Or Come Shine, I Had The Craziest Dream and Train Station Blues. The exceptional sketches and watercolors on the disc and the insert were painted live while the quartet was in performance at Ryles Jazz Club in Cambridge, MA and Borders Book Shop in Framingham, MA and are thanks to the gracious generosity of the artist, Bill Commerford/Boston.

"This latest effort from the jazz singer delivers a new approach with emphasis on intimacy between the band leader (and singer) and the musicians. The sounds are a mix of jazz, blues, gospel, and salsa. This is an impressive effort . . . full of great jazz numbers covered perfectly by this singer and her group. There's a sense of intimacy and knowledge among the players and the result is wonderful listening. Highly recommended."

Blue for You

Patricia Adams

About Blue For You | Buy it now | Options

ALBUM DESCRIPTION
Blue For You is an album about unrequited love - -that illusive obsession that transforms romance into fantasy. Fourteen taunting, haunting standards, blues and pop tunes fill this CD. Featured vocalist, Patricia Adams, showcases her range of feeling musically and emotionally. It's hard to believe the same voice belting out Blues In The Night emits the plaintive mood she creates in All The Time.

“ . . . members of the group fit like a snug but comfortable glove in support of the singer.  This album is a memorable and auspicious start for a late blooming - - but very good - - vocalist.  Recommended."

    – Dave Nathan, All Music Guide

ALBUM DESCRIPTION
Like the fabric, Raw Silk is a natural and dimpled first effort introducing jazz vocalist, Patricia Adams, accompanied by Frank Wilkins on piano. Fifteen jazz standards and blues tunes fill the fifty-eight minute cassette, also available on
CD. Duke Ellington’s familiar Prelude To A Kiss and I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart contrast his Day Dream. Rube Bloom’s Can’t Face The Music Without Singin’ The Blues and Curtis Lewis’ All Night Long balance the well-known Takin’ A Chance On Love and Our Love is Here To Stay. Adams added lyrics to That Sunday by George Weiss & Joe Sherman, and wrote the lyrics to I Want You To Remember, composed by Allan Mueller.

Raw Silk was a labor of love and the platform for Patricia learning the recording process.
